Abstract
Omega Psi Phi is a predominantly
African-American fraternity. The Zeta Epsilon chapter was chartered at Indiana
University in 1947. The collection consists of records created and collected by the
Zeta Epsilon chapter and includes program materials, minutes and reports from
national, district, and local meetings.

Administrative History
Omega Psi Phi is an international fraternity composed of both undergraduate and
graduate chapters. This predominantly African-American organization was founded on
November 17, 1911 at Howard University in Washington, D.C. The four cardinal
principles are manhood, scholarship, perseverance, and uplift. Omega Psi Phi is part
of the National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC). Well known members of Omega Psi Phi
include Bill Cosby, Langston Hughes, Michael Jordan, Shaquille O'Neal, Jesse
Jackson, Dr. Carter G. Woodson, and Roy Wilkins.
Zeta Epsilon is the Indiana University chapter of Omega Psi Phi and was chartered on
October 20, 1947 and has been on and off campus since that time.
Nu Alpha Alpha is the alumni, or graduate, chapter in Bloomington, IN and was
chartered on March 15, 1980. After several periods of inactivity, the chapter was
reactivated in 2004, and both Nu Alpha Alpha and Zeta Epsilon continue to be active
as of 2013.

Collection is organized into three series: National, District, and Local. Files
within each series are arranged alphabetically
Scope and Content Note
This collection consists of records created and collected by the Zeta Epsilon chapter
and includes program materials, minutes and reports from national, district, and
local meetings, arranged into three series: National, District, and Local. Records
span the years from 1935 to 2012, with the majority of materials dating between 2006
and 2012.
Records in the National series primarily consist of reports and publications relating
to the 75th and 76th Grand Conclaves. One item of particular interest is a booklet
entitled "Distinguished Omegas in Civil Rights," located in the folder "74th Grand
Conclave, 75th Grand Conclave, 2006-2008."
The District series includes information relating to the 70th thru 75th meetings of
the 10th district of Omega Psi Phi. Both the National and District series also
include campaign cards from individuals running for office within the
organization.
The final series, Local, consists of historical information relating to Omega Psi Phi
and three area chapters, and includes program flyers, reports, and meeting minutes.
The three chapters represented are Nu Alpha Alpha, Zeta Epsilon, and Zeta Phi (an
Indianapolis chapter).
File arrangement within each series is alphabetical, and arrangement of items such as
meeting minutes and reports within files is chronological.
