Arrangement

Collection is organized into one Biographical series and is further organized into three sub-series: General, Bloomington High School and Indiana University. Series and folders are filed alphabetically by folder title; within the folders, items are arranged chronologically.

Scope and Content Note

This collection is organized into one Biographical series (1929-1940), which is further organized into three sub-series. The General sub-series (1936-1940) includes two of William’s bank account books as well as two travel journals. The first journal begins in June 1936 and runs through August 1936 and documents a Mathers family road trip throughout much of the western United States including stops in many of the country’s great national parks such as Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Sequoia and Yellowstone and Little Big Horne as well as stops at Stanford and Berkley Universities, San Francisco and the Mormon tabernacle in Salt Lake City, Utah, San Francisco. The second journal from August 1937 documents a trip through the upper northeast and documents stops in New York City and Washington D.C.

The Bloomington High School (1929-1934) and Indiana University (1933-1939) sub-series both consist primarily of textbooks, notes, course papers, and various assignments, exams, and compositions. When possible, the coursework was separated by subject matter and/or course title.
