Abstract
Kathleen Cavanaugh Holland (1942-2016) attended Indiana University as an undergraduate student from 1960-1964. These scrapbooks were compiled by Cavanaugh from 1960-1965 and consist of materials related to campus events and student activities and organizations at IU, as well as greeting cards and other mementos from family and friends.

Biographical Note

Kathleen Cavanaugh was born November 9, 1942 to Martha and Harry Cavanaugh, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was raised in Salem, Indiana, and enrolled at Indiana University in 1960. While attending the University, Kathleen was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority, as well as the Association for Women Students and the Young Women’s Christian Association. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Zoology in 1964 and completed her Master of Arts in Teaching degree in Biology in 1970. In 1966, she married James Holland with whom she had one son, Andrew.

After graduating, Kathleen held positions in social and legal services in Michigan and Indiana, at times serving as a probation officer, caseworker, and attorney. She was also involved in many philanthropic organizations, serving at various times as President of the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra Club, President of the Boys’ Club Auxiliary, and Board Member of the Boys’ Club of Bloomington. Kathleen died in Bloomington, Indiana on March 26, 2016.

Scope and Content Note

These scrapbooks were compiled by Kathleen Cavanaugh (Holland) from 1960-1965, mainly during her undergraduate career at Indiana University (1960-1964). The scrapbooks include rush schedules, photographs, clippings, and other material related to her participation in Gamma Phi Beta sorority; programs and ticket stubs for athletic events; newspaper clippings regarding campus events; and greeting cards and other mementos from family and friends.

Box 1 1960-1962 

This scrapbook includes mementos Cavanaugh saved from the freshman camp she participated in during her first year at IU, as well as documents relating to her membership in the Association of Women Students, tickets and programs for sporting events she attended, most notably for Little 500 that year, and her decision to rush Gamma Phi Beta.


Box 2 1962-1963 

This scrapbook includes a group photograph of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority members, greeting cards, and programs, tickets, and clippings related to IU athletic events. It also includes news clippings from the resignation of Herman B Wells as president of the university and the inauguration of Elvis J. Stahr, Jr. Finally, the scrapbook contains photographs from a friend’s wedding (continued in the 1963-1965 scrapbook).


Box 3 1963-1965 

This scrapbook includes a group photograph of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority members, greeting cards, and programs, tickets, and clippings related to IU athletic events. It also contains photographs from a friend’s wedding (continued from the 1962-1963 scrapbook).
