Abstract
Pauline Day (1894-1981) attended Indiana University as an undergraduate from 1912-1916. This collection contains one scrapbook and two annotated planners that document student life at IU through materials such as dance cards from social events, personal notes, newspaper clippings, theater programs, and commencement programs. A small amount of scrapbook material also pertains to Purdue University, which Day also visited to attend student social events.

Biographical Note

Pauline Edger Day (1894-1981) was born in Dunkirk, Indiana to Joseph and Eliza Day. Her family moved to Winchester, Indiana before Pauline enrolled at Indiana University in 1912. She attended IU from September 1912 to June 1916, when she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Pauline lived in Alpha Hall for her last two years at IU. Her cousin, Vivian Day, also attended IU from 1915-1919. After graduating from IU, Pauline taught English and ran the domestic sciences program at Anderson High School in Anderson, Indinana. She retired in 1950 and died in her home in January 1981. She is buried with her parents in Maplewood Cemetery in Madison County, Indiana.

Arrangement

Collection consists of a single scrapbook and two Red Book planners, all contained in a single box.

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of three items. The first is a scrapbook, which dates from 1911 to 1916 and documents Pauline Day’s experiences as an undergraduate student at Indiana University and visitor to Purdue University. The scrapbook contains dance cards from official school events as well as fraternity and sorority events, personal notes, newspaper articles, theater programs, and commencement programs. There are also two IU YMCA Red Book planners, which contains class and school events, student directories, organizations on campus, and Pauline’s schedule and daily activities.
