Abstract
Consists of correspondence, notes, and translations made primarily from French into English of opera libretti and translations of and relating to Francis Ponge. Most of the opera translations were made for or under commission of the Indiana University School of Music Opera Theater. Among the operas are Debussy's Pelléas and Mélisande (1977), Gluck's Orpheus and Eurydice (1992), Gounod's Faust, Manon by Massanet (1980), Mussorgsky's Boris Gudunov (1978), and Rimsky-Korsakov's Night before Christmas (1979). Translations of operas by Malipiero, Mozart, Orrego-Salas, Rameau, and Ravel are also included.

Arranged in two series: I. Opera translations; II. Translations of or relating to French poet Francis Ponge, 1899-1988.

Scope and Content Note

Consists of correspondence, notes, and translations made primarily from French into English of opera libretti and translations of and relating to Francis Ponge. Most of the opera translations were made for or under commission of the Indiana University School of Music Opera Theatre. Among the operas are Debussy's Pelléas and Mélisande (1977), Gluck's Orpheus and Eurydice (1992), Gounod's Faust, Manon by Massenet (1980), Mussorgsky's Boris Gudunov (1978), and Rimsky-Korsakov's Night Before Christmas (1979).
