Biographical Note

Bogumil Witalis ("Goosh") Andrzejewski, 1922-1994, was a scholar of Somali linguistics and professor of Cushitic languages and literatures at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London.

The collection is organized into the following series: I. Somali Notes; II. Oral Literature; III. Miscellaneous

Scope and Content Note

Consists of writings, notes, etc. relating to the languages, literatures and cultures of the peoples of the Horn of Africa. The collection is filed as Professor Andrzejewski arranged and identified the materials and consists of the following series: I. Somali Notes: Andrzejewski’s handwritten notes and annotations about the background of various published Somali texts and vocabulary developed during the Somali literacy campaign of the mid-1970s; II. Oral Literature, relating themes of oral narratives in non-Somali Cushitic languages, and a group of oral poems transcribed in Osmania script; and III. Miscellaneous. An inventory is available.
