This collection is open for research.
Suzanne Jill Levine was born in 1946 in New York City. Levine is a freelance
translator and author, a professor of Spanish and Portuguese as well as a lecturer
on literary translation at numerous universities across the country. She has
translated authors Adolfo Bioy-Casares, Guillermo Cabrera Infante, Julio Cortazar,
Carlos Fuentes and others. She was translator and friend of Manuel Puig and wrote
his biography
Manuel Puig and the Spider Woman: His Life and
Fictions
(Farrer, Straus, and Giroux: New York, 2000).
The collection is organized into the following series: I. Correspondence; II.
Writings. The collection is arranged as received.
Consists of the papers of translator and author, Suzanne Jill Levine. The
correspondence consists of photocopies of Manuel Puig's correspondence as well as
Levine's own correspondence with Puig and others. The writings are mostly Levine's
translations and her critical work on Puig and her
Latin
America Fiction and Poetry in Translation
(Center for Inter-American
Relations: New York, 1970).

correspondence both from and about Puig, collected by Levine for her
biography of him and are mostly photocopies. Levine's correspondence with
