The Nolan mss., 1914, 1926-1974, are the
papers of Jeannette (Covert) Nolan, 1897-1974, author of children's stories, adult
novels, and non-fiction works.

Biographical Note
Jeannette (Covert) Nolan, 1897-1974, was the author of children's stories, adult
novels, and non-fiction works. A native of Indiana, she was the wife of Val Francis
Nolan, 1892-1940, lawyer and trustee of Indiana University.
Arrangement
The collection is arranged in the following series: I. Biographical; II. Contracts
and Agreements; III. Correspondence; IV. Financial; V. Speeches and Writings; VII.
Drawings.
Scope and Content Note
Consists of the papers of Mrs. Jeannette (Covert) Nolan, 1896-1974. The papers
include correspondence with her literary agents, Mavis McIntosh and Elizabeth Otis,
her publishers, Indiana writers such as Meredith Nicholson, Laura Long, Evelyn
Sickels, Barton Rees Pogue, and Barnard De Voto, and Indiana congressmen. Also
present are contracts for her works, royalties, notebooks, speeches, writings, and
clippings of printed works and book reviews. Four drawings by various artists for
her books complete the collection.
