The Jansen, Peter K. mss., 1836–2005,
consists primarily of manuscripts, drafts, correspondence and other material
relating to translations into English from the German made by Peter K. Jansen
(1934–2007) over the course of his career.

Biographical Note
Peter K. Jansen, born in Essen, Germany, completed his M.A. and Ph.D at the
University of Illinois. After working both at the University of Illinois and Indiana
University, he joined the faculty of the University of Chicago in 1968, where he
remained until his retirement in 1999. In addition to his scholarship, Jansen was an
accomplished literary translator, and taught the theory and practice of translation
at Chicago.

Scope and Content Note
The Jansen, Peter K. mss., 1836–2005, consists primarily of manuscripts, drafts,
correspondence and other material relating to translations into English from the
German made by Peter K. Jansen (1934–2007) over the course of his career. Included
with his papers are extensive correspondence relating to his family in Germany from
the mid–19th well into the twentieth century.
