She has also written a play, Pastorale, which was produced at Second Stage in New York City in 1982. Eisenberg was awarded the Rea Award for the Short Story in 2000, a MacArthur Fellowship in 2009, and the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction in 2011 (for The Collected Stories of Deborah Eisenberg (2010), a compendium of her four previous collections). Her other honors include a Whiting Writers' Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and three O. Henry Awards. She has written for such magazines as The New York Review of Books, The New Yorker, and The Yale Review .
