Consists of the letters and papers of French writer, literary revue editor, and salon hostess Juliette (Lambert) Adam, 1836-1936.

Biographical Note

Juliette (Lambert) Adam, 1836-1936, founded La Nouvelle Revue in 1879 and served as its editor until 1899. The majority of the collection dates from the 1880's and the years of her editorship of the revue.

Arrangement

The collection is organized into the following series: I. Correspondence; II. Subjects; III. Writings by Adam; IV. Pictures.

Scope and Content Note

Adam's letters frequently reveal both the changing culture and daily life in the France of the Third Republic. They also chronicle her intense interest and involvement in public affairs and in the promotion of international causes, as well as of women's rights.

Three articles and drafts by Juliette Adam, as well as several notes by her, seemingly relative to her memoirs, are present as are two printed portraits of her.
