Italian filmmaker, 1920-1993, whose best known films include La Dolce Vita and The Satyricon. The term paparazzi comes from a character named Paparazzo in his film La Dolce Vita.

Scope and Content Note

The collection consists of correspondence and related manuscript materials between Italian film director Federico Fellini, 1920-1993 and Playboy Magazine. The materials pertain to publication rights for Wingate Paine's Mirror of Venus, for which Fellini provided accompanying text; a proposed article on Fellini's experiences with the supernatural; and an early version of an interview about the film Fellini Satyricon, which appeared in its revised form in Playboy's May 1970 issue.

2 Letters (both photocopied) to Fellini and Curtis pepper from associate editor John Gabree about Fellini's writing a Playboy magazine article on his thoughts regarding the supernatural (December, 1966).

Contains typed copies of the article Playboy magazine was to publish regarding Fellini's thoughts on his film Satyricon (1969).


1 Galley copy of the Playboy magazine article on the film Satyricon (1969), based on a previous interview with Fellini. The galley copy is from May, 1970.  There is also a handwritten message on this copy from Fellini to his translator, Sally (Improta), telling her that the piece would have to be rewritten.
