The Eoyang mss., ca. 1974-1980, consist primarily of the correspondence and papers of Indiana University Professor of Comparative Literature, Eugene Chen Eoyang, relating to his translations from Chinese into English.

Biographical Note

Eugene Chen Eoyang was a Professor of Comparative Literature at University of Indiana who actively translated Chinese literature into English.

Scope and Content Note

Included are files pertaining to Ai Qing: Selected Poems, translated by Eugene Chen Eoyang, et al. (Bloomington, IN: Indiana University Press, 1982); Chinese Women Poets: An anthology of Poetry and Criticism from Ancient Times to 1911 (Stanford, CA: Stanford University Press, 1999); Sunflower Splendor: Three Thousand Years of Chinese Poetry (Bloomington, IN: Indiana University Press, 1977); and The Coldest Winter in Peking (Garden City, NY: Doubleday, 1978). The files are arranged in the above book title order and included in each is correspondence, drafts of poems, etc. translated by Eoyang and reviews or promotional materials. For The Coldest Winter in Peking there is also a draft and final typescript for the "Translator's Introduction."
