Biographical Note
Edith Fink, born in 1917, is the author of such books as
Hot
Birds and Cold Bottles: A Cookbook.
Henry Miller was a 20th century American writer known for books such as
Tropic of Cancer and
Black
Spring,
as well as for his surrealist style of writing and work in
literary criticism.
Arrangement
This collections consists of a single correspondence series.
Scope and Content Note
Miller's letters discuss Edith's writing style and her problems of finding a
publisher for both her cookbook and a novel. He also talks about his poor health and
his social activities. Anaïs Nin's notes and cards to Robert (there are also two
cards to Edith) are all from 1973 and primarily social notes, as well as some
comments on Edith's publisher problems. There is one longer letter that discusses
Henry Miller's supposed anti-Semitism.
Other correspondents present are William R. Cagle, Kenneth W. Duckett, and George
Polley. Photographs and negatives of Miller and of some of his art works, and a few
printed pieces about Miller or Nin, complete the collection.
