Abstract
The Thielman mss., 1978-1995, consist of the catalogue of the fine bindings collection of James L. Thielman acquired by the Lilly Library in 1998.

Biographical Note

James L. Thielman was a collector of fine bindings. He was esteemed among bibliophiles and bequeathed 80 bindings from his personal collection to the Lilly Library after his death in 1996.

Arrangement

The catalogue was prepared by Martha R. Thielman and consists of a short typed entry for the binder, author, title, printer and date of binding, as well as a color photograph of the binding. Each item is numbered and the entire file is arranged in chronological order by date of binding from 1978-1995. Also present, following the catalogue, is an "Index of Binders"; "Cost (Book & Binding)," arranged in numerical order of the catalogue; "Estimated Value – July 1994," also in numerical order; and finally a list of all the books, each entry of which includes in addition to author, title, etc., the date of publication and the cost of the volume, arranged in alphabetical order by name of binder.
