Abstract
The Mosig mss., 1971-1979, consist of
letters to Dirk Walter Mosig, 1943- , professor of psychology, from science fiction and
fantasy writers principally discussing Howard Phillips Lovecraft, 1890-1937.

Biographical Note
Mosig is a psychologist and well-known Lovecraft aficionado. He edited a newsletter or
review called "The Miskatonic."
Scope and Content Note
Many of the letters refer to Mosig's interest in Lovecraft, to "The Miskatonic," and to
two biographies of Lovecraft published in 1975: L. Sprague de Camp's
Lovecraft: A Biography (New York: Doubleday) and Frank Belknap
Long's
Howard Phillips Lovecraft: Dreamer on the Nightside
(Sauk City, Wisconsin: Arkham House). The letters are written to Mosig at Georgia
Southwestern College in Americus, Georgia, through August 1977, and then at Kearney
State College in Kearney, Nebraska.
The most extensive files are from Robert Albert Bloch, Lyon Sprague de Camp, Frank
Belknap Long, Edgar Hoffman Price, and George T. Wetzel. Other correspondents are Ben
Cook Bowman, Joseph Payne Brennan, August William Derleth, Sterling Edmund Lanier, Fritz
Leiber, Dirk Walter Mosig, John Stewart Williamson, and Gahan Wilson.
