After teaching fellowships in America at Indiana University and Yale, Malcolm Bradbury began his career as a professor the same week his first novel
The collection is arranged into the following series: I. Correspondence; II. Writings; III. Miscellaneous.
The Bradbury, M. mss. II, 1949-1993, consists of the papers of British author, professor, and literary critic Malcolm Bradbury, 1932-2000. The papers contain correspondence with many of Bradbury's contemporaries in British fiction and academics, as well as his agents, publishers, and family. The writings contain many drafts of his novels and critical works, along with research notes and some background material. There are also drafts of books edited by Bradbury. Miscellaneous materials include items related to his teaching, lecturing, and activities with various organizations and committees, as well as financial papers, including royalty statements.

The correspondence consists of a chronological file from 1949-1993, plus an alphabetical file of correspondents selected by Bradbury. Among the correspondents in the chronological file are Bradbury's family, literary agents, publishers, academic colleagues, magazine editors, and students. The correspondents in this file have not been listed or indexed. The alphabetical file is mostly Bradbury's friends and fellow writers. A list of these correspondents is available.

The writings consist of typescripts, carbons, proofs, and handwritten notes, with annotations by Bradbury, his wife, and his editors. They are arranged in the following series: I. Fiction, humor and critical works, including early writings, novels, short stories, humor, parodies, and critical works; II. Works edited by Bradbury; including volumes of short stories and critical essays; III. Drama, including scripts for revues, radio, television and film; IV. Book reviews, by Bradbury; V. A travel diary; VI. Printed items, including clippings, tearsheets and offprints; VII. Writings by others.
After Early Writings, works are arranged by publication date.
