from John Robert Cravens' senior year at Indiana University, 1839-1840. He later became
a lawyer and one of Indiana's leading statesmen.

Biographical Note
John Robert Cravens was born in Madison County Indiana on November 22, 1819. He
graduated from Indiana University with an A.B. in 1840 and later with an A.M. at an
unknown date. He was a lawyer and one of Indiana's leading statesmen. He edited the
Madison Banner, an organ of the Whig Party. On February 1, 1844, he married Drusilla
Lanier. They had eleven children. He died March 26, 1899.
Arrangement
Organized into two series: Correspondence and Lecture notes.
Scope and Content Note
This collection consists of one piece of correspondence from the Athenian Society. The
other item in the collection is a book of lecture notes from classes taken during
Craven's senior year, 1839-1840.
