BROWN, HILTON ULTIMUS: 1859-
Hilton Ultimus Brown, son of Philip and Julia Troester Brown, was born in Indianapolis on Feb. 20, 1859, and graduated from Butler University in 1880, receiving the A.M. degree from Butler in 1882 and an honorary LL.D. from Indiana University in 1935. On Oct. 30, 1883, he married Jennie Hannah, who died in 1939.
For one year (1880-81) he served as principal of the Oaktown (Ind.) Seminary, and after 1881 he was associated with the INDIANAPOLIS NEWS as, successively, reporter, city editor, receiver, managing editor, and general manager. He is now (1947) secretary-treasurer and member of the Associated Press for the NEWS.
