The collection includes 11 issues of the periodical Gospel News Journal. The collection does not contain a complete run of the Journal, but includes issues from Volumes 2-5, dating from 1966-1968.

Biographical Note

Marvin T. Bunton was born September 28, 1943 in Mullin, S.C., and died March 22, 2002. He was a member of The Gospel Warriors and worked with Edwin Hawkins, Brian Pugh, Steve Middleton and Rapture. Bunton started the Gospel News Journal, which promoted gospel artists, records and churches. He also founded the Paradise Record Co.

Cleveland J. Bunton was born January 11, 1946 in Pennsylvania and died June 16, 1994. In addition to his work on the Gospel News Journal, he appears on sound recordings by the Philadelphia Mass Choir and by the Evangelist Rosie Wallace.

Foster Bunton was born May 25, 1934 in South Carolina and died March 24, 1993.

Scope and Content Note

The Gospel News Journal was published in Philadelphia and issued monthly. Marvin T. Bunton served as editor and publisher, Mary Daniels as managing editor, Foster Bunton as production manager, Cleveland J. Bunton as editorial director, Eugene Dukes as associate editor, and Foster Bunton as office manager. A branch office located in Washington, DC was managed by Edmond Harrison, Jr. Addition agents were located in Wilmington, DE; Coatesville, PA; Baltimore, MD; Chicago, IL; and Newark, NJ.
