Abstract
The New University Conference was a national, radical organization that was active on the Indiana University campus from 1968-1971. The leftist group was made up of graduate students and faculty members who were involved in causes such as educational reforms, women's liberation, anti-war, and more. The local Bloomington group was dedicated to exposing problems on the Indiana University campus, especially regarding those issues specifically connected to the national organization's overarching causes. The collection consist of records created by both the National organization and local Bloomington chapter of the New University Conference.

Administrative History

According to information gleaned from the collection, the New University Conference was active on the Indiana University campus from 1968 to 1971. Membership was restricted to graduate students and faculty members. The Bloomington group was just one chapter of a national group, based in Chicago, which had chapters on various college campuses throughout the United States. The group was active in a variety of causes and organized a number of events and campaigns to make their presence known on campus, such as a mock election for the Bloomington Chancellor to hosting a literature table where students could procure literature on the topics important to the NUC.

Arrangement

The Collection is organized into two series: National organization records and Bloomington chapter records.

Scope and Content Note

This collection is organized into two series: National organization records and the Bloomington chapter records.

The first series consists of newsletters from the National organization as well as information about the organization's meetings and conferences. These help to get a sense of what the whole organization supported and what other schools' chapters did.

The second series contains the local Bloomington chapter's records. These include a wide variety of records that illustrate how the chapter tried to enact the changes the New University Conference supported and include newspaper articles, newsletters, proposals, letters, meeting agendas, and group promotional materials. The newspaper articles mainly focus on the campus wide Chancellor mock election organized by the New University Conference.
