Abstract
The Federman mss., 1962-1992, consists of
letters written to author Raymond Federman, born 1928, by fellow writers and
colleagues.

Biographical Note
Raymond Federman, 1928-2009, was a French-born scholar, critic, and avant-garde author.
Arrangement
The letters from Abish, Barth, Beckett, and Cohn are filed
in individual folders, while the other correspondents are interfiled in a
chronologically arranged folder.
Scope and Content Note
The Federman mss., 1962-1992, consists of letters written to author Raymond Federman,
1928-2009, by fellow writers and colleagues. The 30-year period covered in the letters
coincides with the prime of Federman's writing career, when he wrote or edited 23 books,
three of which were critical studies of the work of Samuel Beckett. Beckett himself is
among Federman's correspondents, and his work is a frequent topic of the other writers,
such as Ruby Cohn, who also wrote several books on Beckett. Other correspondents are
Walter Abish, Avigdor Arikha, John Barth, Donald Barthelme, Roland Barthes, Helene
Cixous, and Babette Deutsch.
